In the Monster series, I engage in relationships. Firstly toxic - possessive tendencies, projecting illusions into your counterpart, psychological and physical abuse, the inability to create meaningful relationships, and many other motives.

 

I map bizarre interpersonal relationships through faceless figures, inspired by stories from my surroundings and my own experiences. Some paintings (for example, the 'Toxic relationship') tell stories about unhealthy, abusive behavior. Other depict our tendencies to project ourselves into others and search for salvation in others. Gradually, the series expanded into a map of relationships in general. For example, the 'Evening gathering' tells a tale about a friend and family get-together.

I chose baroque and renaissance portraits of seemingly perfect families and individuals as my initial source of inspiration.
