Series of Paintings – Klára Sedlo
I enjoy working in various series connected by a shared theme, mood, or imaginary world. Many of my oil paintings form a cohesive narrative – for example, the Eel Man or Fogbow series, where individual canvases capture moments from the lives of my imagined characters, or even from my alter ego (which is Fogbow itself). I often return to these characters in my mind, and their stories don’t live only on the canvas – sometimes I accompany them with texts or short stories.
In addition to narrative series, I also create paintings that do not focus on characters but rather explore strange worlds and emotions. In the Friends series, for example, I paint peculiar beings reminiscent of plush toys from a parallel reality. The Bizarre Holiday cycle, on the other hand, opens up a dreamlike, free-flowing landscape with its own logic and unusual atmosphere.
A distinct chapter of my work is the series inspired by the Voynich Manuscript – a mysterious medieval document filled with unknown script and fantastical plants. While imagination still plays a strong role here, the primary source of inspiration in this case is a genuine historical artifact.
